New Yorkers keep moving out of the city to suburbs, other states

An article below predicts that an exodus from big cities will last for a couple of years. This article, linked above, describes how New Yorkers keep moving out of the city to the suburbs. With a high population density, an increased ability to work from home, and with restaurants closed, it is easy to see how people living in urban areas to be near their jobs would be tempted to move to nicer locations.

This article states that the exodus has continued unabated as more people leave for good, according to moving companies.

An owner of a moving company, who has been working nonstop since the city began Phase 1 of its reopening, said 90 percent of the moves are to the suburbs. The people moving are mostly families with kids worried about the school year. He’s packed people out of neighborhoods all over Manhattan.

Real estate investors should not assume that values in urban centers will always go up. With an increased ability to work from anywhere, people will be tempted to leave the more crowded, polluted, high traffic, high density, urban cores, including those with frequent violent protests and riots.
